Exacty 390 yesrs ago, on June 22, 1633, The Papal Office in Rome forced an Italian astronomer and physicist, Galileo Galilei, to recant his view about the universe.

Galileo Galilei held that "the Sun, not the Earth, is the center of the Universe."
Based on some biblical evidences, the church insisted that the earth is the centre of the universe, not the sun.
"By the end of his trial, Galileo was forced to recant his own scientific findings as "abjured, cursed and detested," a renunciation that caused him great personal anguish but which saved him from being burned at the stake."
However, he was put under house arrest for 8 years before his death in 1642. He was aged 77.
Years later after his death Galileo Galilei's teaching was found to be correct.
In 1992, Pope John Paul II said that 'the theologians at the time erred by thinking the ″literal sense of sacred scripture″ explains the physical world.'

Lesson: avoid literal interpretation of the Bible. Literal interpretation of the Bible led to the killing of about 50.000 innocent women condemned as witches in Europe alone.
In Africa today literal interpretation of the Bible is taking its turn in ravaging the continent.
To really understand any verse of the Bible, try to find out: when it was written, who wrote it, for what purpose was it written, to whom was it written, the original language it was written and so on.
Any preacher of the Bible that has no knowledge of biblical exegesis is simply a disaster. For your own good, do not allow your child come close to him or her.
