Osimhen had scored twice in the first half, before the Leone Stars halved the deficit almost at the stroke of half time, with the parity found after the 80th minute mark leaving the game equitably postured.
The home side fought doggedly against their Nigerian counterparts who were a good value for a place in Africa's flagship competition, AFCON 2023, such that when push came to shove, a late goal by substitute, Kelechi Iheneacho nailed the coffin to rest, sealing a place for the 3 times AFCON Champions (1980, 1994, 2013).
