A magistrate court in Umuahia Abia State has slammed life imprisonment on a 37-year-old man Mr. Chiemela Victor Ekeke for raping a 4-year-old girl in Umuahia, ABN TV reports.
Magistrate N. Lekwa had in the last sitting found the accused person guilty of infant defilement. The court however discharged the accused person on count 1, which is bordering on conspiracy. The second defendant was however discharged and acquitted, saying he had no common intention or anything linking him to the crime.
The prosecuting counsel, Okezuonu Obioma applauded the decision of the court, saying it is the position of the law in defilement of a minor.
Mr. Chiemela Victor Ekeke had confessed to having carnal knowledge of the minor but pleaded for leniency. Mr. Okeke who admitted that he is HIV-positive during interrogation said the doctors informed him that the virus in his system is not something serious and has been flushed
