Residents of Umuobia Housing Estate Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area have appealed to the state government to come to their aid over life threatening erosion in the area.
The residents including, Mrs Ndidi Nwosu and Prof Chris Chinaka who made the call, while conducting newsmen around the gully site said if urgent steps are not taken by the government, the erosion will sack the residents who are predominantly serving and retired civil servants.
According to Mrs Nwosu and Prof Chinaka, over three buildings have already been pulled down by the gully erosion, which they attributed to incessant flooding in the area caused by the dilapidated condition of the roads that lead to the Umuobia Housing Estate.
The residents called on the Governor Dr Alex C. Otti to come to their rescue to save them from further loss of houses to the erosion.
Also speaking Mr Gilbert Nkenna, whose house has been severely damaged by the gully, stressed the need for government’s intervention in rehabilitating the gully, pointing out that he has been rendered homeless as a result of the erosion which started last year.
